Should I consider using one of the newly advertised 'home microdermabrasion' kits in between sessions at your office?
NO! Those over-the-counter kits, as well as scrubs with ground-up nuts, contain abrasive products that inflame the skin and gather bacteria. This reaction results in irritated skin and can actually worsen acne. We also do not advise the use of any crystal-based microdermabrasion services done at spas or home machines, which are ineffective for acne control, increase bacteria load, and do not improve collagen. Instead, we recommend physician-performed microdermabrasion with a sterile vacuumed tip to promote collagen stimulation. By removing the top dull layer of skin, this procedure allows healthier cells to come to the surface, resulting in improved skin health, texture and appearance.
